In the capital of Uzbekistan, down the basement of an anonymous hotel, lies a unique bastion of hope and freedom
Created in 1976 by a group of visionary artists, the Ilkhom theatre has miraculously survived dictatorships and the brutal assassination of its founder by religious extremists. Nowadays, its shows attract spectators from all over the world, making this little island of freedom a unique bridge between the East and the West.
Every night, its squeaky stage and crammed seats are filled to capacity with people ready to travel thousands of miles to experience its contagious energy.
We will lead you through a place where no taboos, fears or censorship are allowed. We will introduce you to a close-knit group of courageous and brilliant actors driven by the belief that tyranny, conformism and repression will never silence the human spirit.
